TomatoCart is robust and easy to manage shopping cart with rather different GUI, which looks like windows desktop.
In this overview I will not talk about the performance side of the shoping cart, just operating and looks and feel of it. The goal is that you could save your time and could judge quickly if this shopping cart is suitable for you.
Backend
After loging in you feel like Windows system is started in your web browser. All functions are nicely organice as excecutable programs. You can easily costumize what should be on desktop and what not. Not many shopping carts are so flexible. You can even configure taskbar and sidebar transparency, change the backround picture and colour of your desktop theme. Its even too much because all we need shopping cart to do is to make money, right? so too many whistels make you think why were they focusing on such unimportant things.
Frontend
Of course is TomatoCart also template based. It means that you can easily change the looks of the store. To be honest then the default store isn’t very appealing. But do the search for “tomatocart templates” and you will find some useful sites offering them for free.
Product info pages are built as in most of shopping carts, bigger picture on the upper left . From right side option to add to wishlist or to shopping cart. Nothing new here.
Checkout process is tedious 6 step ordeal. Why are not shopping cart developers developing all one page checkout pages? They are 100 times more convenient and they convert 200 times better. also strange thing is while being in checkout process one can see all the other info the page had so you can very easily click to a new link and forget to make the payment.. customers only option should be to pay the money.
To sum things up, its an easy shopping cart where administration panel beats the front end and you would like to spend more time on backend than in fine tuning the content and look of the site. Definetly worth tryng. And its free! Check it out: http://tomatocart.com/
